PSP Go!Messenger arrives this Friday

Free video chat, voice chat and instant messaging between PSP owners is nearly here

Sony has confirmed that its free internet telephony package Go!Messenger will be launched in Europe this Friday, February 29th.

The software, which is already included on any PSP updated with the latest Sony firmware, allows PSP owners to chat for free via any BT Wireless hotspot or through their own wireless internet connections.

Used in conjunction with Sony’s Go!Cam, which retails for £34.99, Go!Messenger allows for video chat, and also allows users to send video messages that can be received by friends the next time they get online.

“With Go!Messenger, the PSP is pushing new boundaries, adding unique communication features to all the existing multimedia experiences,” Sony’s PSP European marketing manager Stephane Hareau stated.

“Enabling more than 8.5 Million PSP users across the SCEE region to communicate with each other, through video or voice chat, truly confirms the always evolving nature and potential of PSP."

Sony has previously announced a deal that will bring Skype functionality to the Slim & Lite version of the PSP. This will offer free telephone calls to regular phone users, but no video chat.
