Mozilla puts mobile in its sights
Mozilla is rumoured to be in talks with operators about its mobile Firefox browser.
By the end of 2008, Mozilla aims to release a mobile browser that can run on Linux and Windows Mobile devices. Mozilla expects a variety of responses from operators, with some resisting it and protecting their walled gardens, and others welcoming a browser that encourages mobile web exploration.
But it’s hoping for co-operation from the mobile community as Mozilla is run on a free, open source model.
Nokia has already contributed code back to the community, embedding a a browser that utilizes Mozilla's Gecko rendering engine in versions of its N800 and N810 tablets.
Mozilla has five full-time engineers working at its mobile development centre in Copenhagen and is hiring more.
