T-Mobile denies plot to dump Nokia Ovi devices

T-Mobile is denying reports it plans to dump Nokia devices tied to the handset giant's Ovi mobile web service. German magazine WirtschaftsWoche reported T-Mobile would eliminate the Nokia handsets in reaction to concerns Ovi would cannibalize the operator's in-house content platform; a T-Mobile spokesperson admitted to the magazine the company does not presently carry Ovi-enabled devices, but added "We are currently in negotiations with Nokia about the Ovi service and are pretty confident to find a solution soon."

However, at the annual CeBIT telecom trade show, T-Mobile Germany head Philipp Humm told Reuters he did know how WirtschaftsWoche reached its conclusion, contending it is not the operator's policy to exclude Nokia handsets from its device portfolio. Further underscoring continued positive relations between the two firms, T-Mobile and Nokia jointly announced at CeBIT the Nokia 6650, an exclusive device equipped with integrated GPS and multimedia player capabilities.
