Touchcreen revs to almost double by 2012
iSuppli says global revenue for touchscreen technologies will rise from $2.4 billion in 2006 to $4.4 billion by 2012.
Obviously, iPhone has done the most to spark interest in the space, as has LG’s Prada/Viewty and HTC’s Touch. However, iSuppli suggests the dominant technology used in the manufacture of touchscreens may change from ‘resistive’, which is most commonly used now, to others such as conductive polymer, carbon nanotube and Antimony Tin Oxide (ATO).
It said: “Projected capacitive touch screen technology is more durable and has better transmittance than the more commonly used resistive technology.
